Owning a horse is a big commitment and as with anything in which you invest time money and care, there is also a certain amount of risk involved. Having the correct insurance for your horse and any related equipment will help to protect you against these risks to a large degree, but what should you know about equine and horsebox insurance? Insuring your horse It goes without saying that horses are larger than your average domestic pet, and coupled with the fact that they live longer, there is a high probability that you will have to pay out for vet’s bills at some point or other. By having a suitable level of equine insurance you can protect yourself against this financial liability, whilst at the same time ensuring that your horse gets the best possible treatment when he needs it. For older animals it is also possible to get specialist veteran horse insurance which takes into account the heightened chance of illness and other problems without leaving you significantly out of pocket. Whether you’re a horse owner or you’re running a livery yard or stable, you can also get insured against the risk of losing your animal to disease or […]
Katerina Plotnikova Photography has posted some amazing animal images that claim to not be photo shopped. We c=kind of hope they are, children with bears seem a little risky! In any case the pictures are stunning and truly beautiful. We have no doubt animals and people can live in harmony, sometimes you can just see it as if it’s real.
As an animal lover there is no doubt dogs probably have a special place in your heart. Not only are dogs full of love for their owners, they are playful and protective. Most dogs would die for their owner and will always care for them no matter what happens between the two. This unconditional bond is something almost impossible to find with any other two living things. With all this amazingness that dogs offer it’s a good idea to give back to these wonderful animals. Here is 5 easy things everyone can do make their dog happier. 1. Let them roam free, walking a dog is great and there is no doubt they love it. But letting them off leash in place they can run and be free is priceless. More and more dog parks are built all the time just for this reason! 2. Take off the collar, dogs hear a much broader amount of sound. The little jingles and jangles can drive a little doggy nuts. Letting them roam without a collar in-doors will make then happier and feel more free. 3. Get them snacks and bones, dogs love to chew stuff up and treats make them feel special. […]
The reason ALOP.org started was to help people understand that animals are our partners not for food and fun. They have feelings just like us and there is plenty of other ways to live awesomely without killing them especially in the inhumane psychotic ways we do now. We have found another focus and it will be last chance ranches, all donations will go directly to these rescue sanctuaries around. These amazing places house animals that would normally be killed. We have been to several all over the world and every time a tear nearly forms from the love for animals that no one else wants or where abused. We feel there is no greater service in the animal community than these and they deserve all the help they can get. We will be doing posts for a new rescue sanctuary each month and details on how to contribute directly. All donations to ALOP will also be distributed to these places less a small amount we use to promote the website. If you have a last chance ranch in your town go visit them, most are homes for people as well as animals and most like to have events and fund raisers. I […]

A purpose-built horsebox is of course the best way of doing so but if your horse is as stubborn as a mule then it can be hard going. Fortunately there are a number of gentle but effective methods that you can use to get your reluctant horse into the horsebox, all of them kind to the animal. You might use one of these in isolation, or perhaps combine several to create the perfect loading method for you and your horse. When trying any of these methods, it’s important to remain calm and not let your frustration show in your tone of voice or your body language, as doing so can make the horse even more reluctant. The food bribe Horses are animals, and like any animal, the pursuit of food is one of their main goals in life. It’s surprising how quickly their fear or stubbornness can evaporate […]
